May 29th – Morning Meeting

Good Morning!

Happy Friday!  I hope you’ve all had a great week!  Remember we have a Zoom at 9 today, with a special guest!  Also, remember to get those reading videos to me, too, for the reading celebration!

The children did amazing this week, with research and fractions!  Just a reminder that next week, we will be cutting way back on academics. The focus will be on a habitat research project! Everything else will be optional!  We will also be having our reading Zoom sing-along next Tuesday.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend!  As always, thank you for all that you continue to do!

Good morning!  It was an exciting night at my house.  My family saw two bears walk across my front yard!  I hope you all had a fun, and peaceful evening!  The children are going to continue with some rainforest animal research.  They are going to complete this in either pebblego or wordbook.  That information is all located in Seesaw, and on our webpage.  There is a list of animals for them to choose from.  They are going to also do a little more work with fractions.  I have posted a fraction lesson, of myself, but this is information that they will get from the posted lesson, as well.  I just thought it might be helpful for the kids to hear it one more time.

I sent out an email yesterday, with a Zoom meeting notice for Friday!  I also had some updates regarding the reading celebration!  Keep the videos of the posters coming!

I hope you all have a terrific day!

May 27th – Morning Meeting

Good morning!  I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather!  I have attached a website to read an article about rain forest insects.  This is not a webpage that I have explored beyond the insect article.  So, please use caution with allowing your children to explore further.  I was just fascinated by some of these creepy crawlies.

We have a whole group zoom on Friday, with a special guest!  I will send out an invite, today!

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

May 26th – Weekly Calendar and Morning Meeting

Good Morning!  I hope you all had an amazing weekend, and Memorial Day!  Finally, some beautiful weather!  I hope you were all able to get outside a little and enjoy it!

Here is the calendar for the week – > May 26 – May 29

This week, we will be learning about the rainforest!  Each day will be filled with lots of rainforest activities!  I have switched things up a little, and all grammar and spelling will be optional.  Literacy activities will all be integrated into science and social studies.  I know it is getting harder for some kiddos to stay focused and motivated.  Especially now that the weather is looking more and more like summer.  Do the best they can to get assignments done, but feel free to take a break, when you feel like they need it.  We would often have to switch things up, at this point in the year, when we were having trouble focusing.  Feel free to do the same.  Most of the work is review, at this point, so it is okay to choose a different way to practice math and literacy skills.

Today, I have asked the children to write, or record a silly rainforest story.  I have provided four story starters, but if they have a different idea, that is great!  Go for it!  We are starting with a lesson on fractions today, and will continue with other fraction activities throughout the week.

As always, thank you for all that you do!  I am grateful for each of you!

May 21 – Morning Meeting

Good morning!  Happy Thursday!

I sent an email last night, detailing some updates around a reading celebration.  We would love for the children to participate in this celebration, however, it is completely optional.

Today, the kiddos are going to complete their last math check-in.  This will be looking to see what their knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes is.  There are more shapes listed than we expect the kids to know.  However, this will provide us with good information as to what they have learned.  Please try not to help them with this check-in.  Or, at least let us know what assistance you have provided.

I am also back in the classroom today to finish packing up.  Therefore, I will be approving, but not correcting all assignments.  I am working hard to get all assignments corrected from the week.  My apologies for the delay.  It has been a challenge, with the time spent in the classroom.

I hope that you all have an amazing weekend!  Thank you for all that you continue to do!

May 20th – Morning Meeting

Good morning everyone!  Yesterday I started the process of cleaning out our classroom.  I was able to find and bag all of the belongings that you requested.  It certainly was a busy, and emotional day.  I hope you all had a great day!  The weather looked beautiful!

Today, for math, please do not help your second graders – this is a check-in to see where they are with addition and subtraction strategies.  Tomorrow we will have a quick check in for shapes.

I have also redesigned the preposition lessons in Seesaw.  If you have printed the grammar pages from our website – they are DIFFERENT!  These lessons are not reproducible lessons, so I couldn’t change them on our webpage.

The next three days look like beautiful weather!  I hope you can get outside and enjoy some of that sunshine!  Remember, if your family needs a break, it is OKAY to take one!  Have a great day!

May 19th – Morning Meeting and Math

Hi there,

I hope you all had a great start to the week!  It looks like a beautiful morning, I am just ready for it to warm up a little bit!  My plants are quite eager to get into the ground!

For math today, we are going to review subtraction strategies.  I really want to make sure that the children have a solid strategy to use, before leaving second grade.  Please let me know if this seems incredibly challenging for your second grader, and I can meet with them, to review some strategies.

I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

May 18th – Morning Meeting, weekly calendar and math

Good morning 2nd Grade Families!  I hope you all had an outstanding weekend!

Here is your weekly calendar ->.May 18 – May22

This week we are moving on to learn about the tundra!  Brrrrrr….  I think I am really ready for the tropical rainforest!

This week, we are also going to be reviewing double digit addition and subtraction strategies.  Later in the week, we will complete a check in, to determine if we need to practice these strategies more.  Today, we will start with addition strategies.  Just a reminder that we only have one whole group zoom scheduled.  I will actually be in our classroom, two of the mornings.  Also, please remember to let me know, today, if there is anything that your second grader hopes to retrieve from the classroom.

Have a great day, everyone, and thank you for all that you do!

May 14th – Morning Meeting and STEM challenge

Good morning!  We made it through another week of remote learning!  Pat yourselves on the back for doing such a great job with all of this! I’m so grateful for each of you!  I’m hoping to get to see all of you this morning at our class Zoom!  Remember, we have a special guest coming!

Today, I have posted a STEM and Virtual Field Trip!  I hope you have fun with these activities!  I’m excited to create my own today! 🙂

I hope you all have an AMAZING weekend!  I can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

Here is a fun desert STEM project

Start by reading about some snakes, and observing their skin patterns:
