Artist in Residence – day 1

Oh, what fun!  We had day one of our Artist in Residence today!  The children were excited to get outside, and to begin  this experience!  Cynthia Robinson led the children in thinking about the space that we will be working in, and got them thinking about the natural elements along a trail.  The children collected materials, and made a home for an insect that could possibly live in this area.  The children had a lot of fun!  We are hoping that the weather forecast changes, as rain is predicted in the future.  If the weather is misting, or light rain, we will be braving the outdoors.  Please make sure that our second graders are prepared with jackets and footwear.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather holds out!

Shape Capture and Attribute Cards

We have been learning all about different shapes, and their attributes.  I have been pushing the children to start thinking a little deeper, mathematically.  They were a little frustrated with the process, but I wanted them to work through this exploration, rather than me directly teaching them the attributes.  I was proud of how the children worked through it.  We then practiced using words such as vertices and angles to describe and sort shapes, and then played the game Shape Capture.
