May 21 – Morning Meeting

Good morning!  Happy Thursday!

I sent an email last night, detailing some updates around a reading celebration.  We would love for the children to participate in this celebration, however, it is completely optional.

Today, the kiddos are going to complete their last math check-in.  This will be looking to see what their knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes is.  There are more shapes listed than we expect the kids to know.  However, this will provide us with good information as to what they have learned.  Please try not to help them with this check-in.  Or, at least let us know what assistance you have provided.

I am also back in the classroom today to finish packing up.  Therefore, I will be approving, but not correcting all assignments.  I am working hard to get all assignments corrected from the week.  My apologies for the delay.  It has been a challenge, with the time spent in the classroom.

I hope that you all have an amazing weekend!  Thank you for all that you continue to do!

May 20th – Morning Meeting

Good morning everyone!  Yesterday I started the process of cleaning out our classroom.  I was able to find and bag all of the belongings that you requested.  It certainly was a busy, and emotional day.  I hope you all had a great day!  The weather looked beautiful!

Today, for math, please do not help your second graders – this is a check-in to see where they are with addition and subtraction strategies.  Tomorrow we will have a quick check in for shapes.

I have also redesigned the preposition lessons in Seesaw.  If you have printed the grammar pages from our website – they are DIFFERENT!  These lessons are not reproducible lessons, so I couldn’t change them on our webpage.

The next three days look like beautiful weather!  I hope you can get outside and enjoy some of that sunshine!  Remember, if your family needs a break, it is OKAY to take one!  Have a great day!

May 19th – Morning Meeting and Math

Hi there,

I hope you all had a great start to the week!  It looks like a beautiful morning, I am just ready for it to warm up a little bit!  My plants are quite eager to get into the ground!

For math today, we are going to review subtraction strategies.  I really want to make sure that the children have a solid strategy to use, before leaving second grade.  Please let me know if this seems incredibly challenging for your second grader, and I can meet with them, to review some strategies.

I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

May 18th – Morning Meeting, weekly calendar and math

Good morning 2nd Grade Families!  I hope you all had an outstanding weekend!

Here is your weekly calendar ->.May 18 – May22

This week we are moving on to learn about the tundra!  Brrrrrr….  I think I am really ready for the tropical rainforest!

This week, we are also going to be reviewing double digit addition and subtraction strategies.  Later in the week, we will complete a check in, to determine if we need to practice these strategies more.  Today, we will start with addition strategies.  Just a reminder that we only have one whole group zoom scheduled.  I will actually be in our classroom, two of the mornings.  Also, please remember to let me know, today, if there is anything that your second grader hopes to retrieve from the classroom.

Have a great day, everyone, and thank you for all that you do!

May 14th – Morning Meeting and STEM challenge

Good morning!  We made it through another week of remote learning!  Pat yourselves on the back for doing such a great job with all of this! I’m so grateful for each of you!  I’m hoping to get to see all of you this morning at our class Zoom!  Remember, we have a special guest coming!

Today, I have posted a STEM and Virtual Field Trip!  I hope you have fun with these activities!  I’m excited to create my own today! 🙂

I hope you all have an AMAZING weekend!  I can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

Here is a fun desert STEM project

Start by reading about some snakes, and observing their skin patterns:

Garter Snake

Rainbow Boa

Burmese Python

Coral Snake

Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake

King Snake

Next, make a plan for how you will design your snake:

Snake Plan

Engineering and Design Process

Finally, create your snake!

May 13th – Morning Meeting and Math

Good morning!

Great job, making it halfway through the week!  Today, I am going to ask you to make sure that you either submit a photo of your habitat journal, or record your research, using the microphone in seesaw, so that I can see all of your hard work.  I can’t wait to see what animals you choose in the desert!

For math today, there are two assignments.   However, for the first assignment, I am asking that you at least do the first part.  You don’t have to count the vertices, faces, and edges.  I know that can be time consuming.  However,  I would love for you to try, if you have time!

Keep up the great work, and have a wonderful Wednesday!

May 12th – Morning Meeting and more

Good morning!  I hope you have all had a great start to the week!

Today, the children are going to be doing some research in worldbookonline.com, to find out more information about the cactus.

Username – nbcs

Password – bobcat

Once in, they can choose the icon for “kids”, then type “cactus” into the search bar.  I have created a quick video to explain this to them.  Once they have recorded their facts in their habitat journal, please take a photo in Seesaw, and upload.  The directions for how to do this are in the assignment on seesaw.

I hope you all have a great day!  Hooray for some sunshine!!!

May 11th – Morning Meeting and Weekly Calendar

Good Morning!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and an amazing Mother’s Day!

Here is our weekly calendar – >May 11 – May 14

As I mentioned in our morning meeting.  We are shifting a little to integrate science and social studies into our literacy blocks, even more.  The only components of Wonders that we are really sticking with, are spelling and grammar.  All of the texts are still available on the Wonders platform, if your second grader wants some additional practice!

Our small group zooms have shifted to 8 students this week, so a little bigger.  We will also have an optional whole group zoom on Thursday at 9.  My apologies for getting those notices out late yesterday.  I was having a little trouble uploading assignments into Seesaw, so time got away from me a little.  As always, if you are unable to attend at your assigned time, please reach out to me.

Have a great day, everyone!

May 8th – Morning Meeting

Good morning my friends!  I didn’t record a video today, because I get to see you this morning!!! We will be Zooming as a whole class at 9 AM.  You can use the same meeting code we’ve been using.  I’m looking forward to having our whole class together again! ❤️  Of course, if you don’t make it this morning, I completely understand!   I hope you all have an amazing weekend.

Today is a Spirit day!  Opposite Day – meaning teachers dress like students, and students dress like kids!  🤔. This should be interesting!

I hope you all had fun with habitats this week!  I’m looking forward to moving on to deserts next week!

This week, I have posted a fun end of week activity!  It is a virtual field trip to the habitat we’ve been studying this week.  The kiddos can complete a scavenger hunt of animals, as they watch!

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday, and a wonderful weekend!
