Wow!  What a great couple of weeks we have had!  We celebrated the 100th day of school, with lots of fun 100 activities, and some pretty great glasses!

We also dove right in to our states of matter unit, with some incredibly fun, and messy activities!  We made ooblek!  This mass is both a solid and a liquid.  This was great fun!  Next, we measured out more ingredients and made some yummy smelling kool-aid play doh.

Finally, we ended the week by making observations with root beer floats!  Here, we saw solids, liquids and gases!  We also observed how some matter can change forms from solids to liquids, or vice versa.  It was a sweet way to end the week!  Our class was in the top six in the school to earn 100 paws cards, for excellent hallway and cafeteria behavior, so the children enjoyed a movie, with their floats, as a reward!

We tried our best to stay on task with Wonders, completing word sorts, and lots of vocabulary practice!  Silent letters in spelling is tricky!  We also read some expository texts on Rocky Mountain National Park, and Alaska!  We made some nice text to world connections with the stories and pictures we heard about Brittney’s trek to the basecamp of Mt. Everest!  Now that we’ve read about the different zones, we have some more questions for her, the next time we see her!  We also continued to practice adding -er and -est to the ends of words!  Those rule breakers are tricky, but the children are doing quite well with them!

Ms. Brown has helped us with some calming down strategies.  We learned a new song, and dance: stop, name your feeling, calm down… The kids had fun practicing!

We we also practiced some breathing.  Using belly breaths, ocean breaths, and flower breaths to help us calm down.

In math, we have continued to practice with base ten.  We have practiced building numbers in base ten, to help solidify our understanding of place value.  Measurement has also been a focus this week!  We’ve been practicing measuring to the whole inch and centimeter, and some groups started to practice measuring to the half inch and centimeter.  I’m impressed with how well they are all doing!

We were pretty lucky to have a new Promethian board in our room for a few days!  Oh, what fun we had with it!!!  We were all a little sad to see it go!  It will be traveling around the school, to allow teachers to pilot it, so we can determine if they would enhance our  teaching.  We certainly had a great time with it!

Jump Rope for Heart was a huge success!!!  The school earned more than $8,000!!!!  We had a lot of fun completing all four rotations!  What a great job done, by all!!!

Wow!!! Those Valentine’s boxes!!!  What creativity the children had!  I can tell that many of them put a lot of effort into their boxes!  Thank you for supporting them with these!  They were fantastic!!!  Also, thank you for all your generous donations, and offers to help!  I really appreciate all of your support!
