Looking for…

STEAM supplies!  We have been participating in weekly STEM or STEAM activities. (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) These activities are so engaging and fun!  We have been going through A LOT of supplies to complete them.  I am happy to supply them, because it is amazing to see the learning that is taking place.  I figured I would reach out to see if any of our amazing families have some supplies hanging around that they aren’t using.  Please don’t feel the need to go out and buy any of these.  I figured I would check to see if anyone has any of these supplies that they aren’t using.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Things we might need:

-paper towel and toilet paper rolls

-tape (scotch or masking – but mostly masking)

-yarn

-straws

-plastic spoons

-plastic cups

-toothpicks

-pipe cleaners

-index cards

-film containers ( I know it’s a long shot…and, I am dating myself), or interesting little containers.

Thanks again!

Halloween!

Bah!!!  Where has October gone?!!  It is hard to believe that Halloween is right around the corner!  Our class will not be partaking in a “traditional” classroom party for Halloween, but we will be having LOTS of fun!  We will be doing some pumpkin explorations in the morning; getting our hands messy, and doing some math work with some pumpkins.  (Please don’t wear your Sunday best!…pumpkin guts are messy!)  In the afternoon, we will spend some time, either decorating some pumpkins, or doing a fun craft (depending on what we have time for).  I have had a few parents offer to bring in a snack, and cool drink for after the parade, which the kids can eat and drink, while we read some fun Halloween stories, and pack-up for the weekend.  We will be getting for the parade around 12:30, and would welcome anyone that wants to help their second grader get ready for the parade.  Also, I know that many parents look forward to classroom parties, so if you want to get your hands messy in some pumpkins, you are more than welcome to get in touch with me

Open Response: Subtraction and Turn Around Facts

In math, we have been practicing turn around facts (3+2=5 can be turned around to 2+3=5).  Today, the kids worlds on an Open Response problem, where they had to write their own subtraction number story, and then they had to write about whether the turn around rule would work for their subtraction problem.  It was nice to see so many groups working diligently, together!

Spelling Practice

So… with the crazy, busy day that we had yesterday, we did not have a spare moment to fit in a pretest.  With that being said, I didn’t want to skip a week of spelling, or guess what words the kids needed to practice for the week.  So, we took the pretest today, and will take our spelling test next Monday, so they can have the weekend to get an extra study in.  We have another incredibly busy week, next week, so we will not have a spelling list next week.  As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
